After a Decade of Service, Board President Susie Munsey Leaves Legacy of Mission, Growth

Christe LePeau, Executive Director

For the first time in 10 years, Susie Musey will be stepping away from her role as a volunteer for Seeds Community Center. Spurred by a desire to be on mission for Christ through service, Susie first joined the board in June of 2014. Since then, Seeds Community Center has undergone a complete transformation in all facets of the organization-from a change in leadership, to its mission statement, and what types of programming was offered in the community. Through it all, she has faithfully served as one of Seeds Community Center’s loudest and boldest advocates.

Most of Susie’s impact has been centered around building up and supporting the development of the board of directors. As the governing body of the organization, the board works to provide oversight and leadership of all of Seeds Community Center’s activities to ensure we keep our mission in focus. Susie developed fellow board members by joyfully challenging them to lean into their roles, while also eagerly learning alongside them in the process. Susie encouraged board members to step outside of their comfort zones, especially into spaces that could help the organization grow.

In the spring of 2022, she took on the role of Board President with humility. In her last two years, she led the organization into a new growth stage, supported by her focus to grow and professionalize the board of directors. The incredible growth of our board has greatly expanded our capacity and opportunities to serve our families.

As Executive Director, I was consistently encouraged by Susie’s genuine excitement over our work in the community. She continues to wholeheartedly believe in the mission of the organization and loves to hear first-hand accounts of the impact being made. Even when I doubted myself or my capabilities, Susie pushed me to be a better leader. She cheered me on when I was unsure and graciously accepted any mistakes that were made along the way. If I spent too much time reflecting on a particular misstep, she would pause, smile and proudly proclaim, “We are learning so much!” And indeed, we were.

I know I can speak for the greater board when I say that Susie has sparked something in all of us: a desire to work wholeheartedly for the fulfillment of the mission of Seeds Community Center. The board she has worked with intention to build up will continue to grow upon the foundation she has laid. And for that, we are all grateful.
